- Student Council Spirit Day – this Thursday, June 8th
- Exam Prep Lunch & Learns – June 7, 12 – 13
- Staff Appreciation Luncheon – Friday, June 16th (See Online Sign-Up sent via email for food
contributions) – deliver food to the Library BEFORE 11am and LABEL your serving dish and/or
utensils for your student to collect in the office at the end of the day - Last official day of School – Monday, June 19th
- Final Exams – June 20-23
- Grade 12 Commencement – Monday, June 26th

- DECA Business Council (compete via businesses cases) – Applications due tomorrow for
Exec positions; general member positions available September - Head buddies and general buddies have been chosen and have been in training
- End of August – Head Start to High School – date TBA
- Good turnout for student Spring Fling!

- Events happening at school, review, things to look forward to 2023-24
- Spread the word – hosting webinar on vaping (marketing, packaging, legality); discuss broader
strategy at LP and feeder schools; limit of 400 attendees for webinar; Dr. Adam Cole from
Ontario Tech University, leading expert in vaping; tomorrow evening 7pm - Alumni event tomorrow evening live at LP tomorrow evening; auditorium foyer being renamed
‘Alumni Hall’ – big announcement will be made tomorrow - Group Alumni photo at 7:40pm (arrive early if you wish to be in the photo); event begins at
7pm - 2 banners on the exterior north wall of the school celebrating age of the school and
anniversary of the French program (oldest in City of Toronto) - Prom at Eglinton Grand successful – will book again for next year’s grads
- Commencement 3 weeks today in the afternoon at Parkview Manor on Barber Green
- Robes to be returned the following day when diplomas, awards can be collected (please refer
to The Eye for more details; caps can be kept by grads) – being coordinated by VP Emily
Saylor - Athletic Banquet next Monday at Parkview Manor
- Final Exams start June 20; June 19 is official last day of school (yearbook distribution,
tutorials, outdoor sports in the afternoon) - Exam prep workshops available
- Façade finally, over a year, winding down (cleaning); doors will be removed and stripped,
refinished and repainted with new handles; new school letters will be installed, columns being
painted - New foyer furniture, as well as downstairs near cafeteria, guidance department will be updated
with new furniture - Due to be approved for complete library renovation (new flooring, etc.) throughout next school
year (to begin June 2024); glass doors at entrance for library and guidance dept. - Turf on agenda, entire front of school on Chatsworth re-landscaped
- Eco-Council working with local organization to re-do part of one of the parking lot islands as an
experiments to guage public response (Ms. Amalia Fedore, Head of Science is the lead) - Equity-oriented initiatives took place this year to celebrate the diversity of the community,
Black Student Alliance, Jewish Student Union development; Indigenous education with strong
Indigenous narrative in our curriculum; land acknowledgement is being revised and made
current with actual land the schools are occupying – strong development took place this year
in this area - Filipino student group, Asian Student Alliance, LATAM student group – new/development
2023-24 - Pride Month events taking place; we have a lot of work to do with this community to create a
sense of belonging; ie. Professional Development took place last week re: Pronouns in
LGBTQS+ Community - New Head of Art 2023-24 – Mr. Stamp
Parent Question: Spirit Cards – will they be used again next year?
Answer: The remaining amount is NOT reuseable next year (no carryover); June 7th event can use
Spirit Cards.
Parent Question: Where can LP Wear be picked up?
Answer: Room 28 – pick-up for LP Wear this week.
Parent Question: When do students get 2023-24 schedules?
Answer: Not until end of August for finalized student schedule – Guidance reviewing course selections
- Executive Reports
Treasurers – Patricia Kay, John Hiddema
- Treasurers endorse doing a donation ask at the beginning of the next school year to provide a
kitty of money to support events and classroom initiatives - $2,800 April; $23,000 current balance – pending auction item payments
- Expenses: Music festival ($500), parent committee grad breakfast costs, staff appreciation lunch
on June 16th, other line items; we’re in amazing shape following the fundraiser!
Communications – John Hiddema (on behalf of Lori Rosenberg) - LPCI Website requires TLC! Lori Rosenberg (Chair, Communications) is moving forward with a
new website – launch objective late July www.lpschoolcouncil.ca – domain and hosting
established, as well as e-mail for banking purposes; going into full design, consolidation of
pages, addition of fundraising buttons (donate button) – anyone familiar with WordPress à
Elena Sokolhina volunteered to assist - Please reach out if you’re able to help with the website and/or subcommittees
Fundraising – Marni Schulman, Chair of Fundraising - 80s Craze Fundraiser – parents’ social at Drums N Flats with live 80s band, online silent auction
of over 183 items; 180 of these sold! - Goal of supporting new furniture, chill lounges, updated cafeteria – raised over $22K (exceeded
goal of $18-20K) – hold this kind of event earlier in the year in 2023-24 - Christmas Holiday Tasting Tour at LP with school band playing – plan to do this again next year
as one of our big fundraisers - Fundraising has been involved in most events that took place this year at LP – would like to
continue this level of participation next year, in particular with events that engage the community
and local vendors/businesses - Will reinstate $50 parent donation requested at the beginning of the next school year (as was
done regularly prior to Covid)
Parent Engagement & Welless Subcommittee – Megan Fahlenbok - Wellness week went very well; organized by students with little help from the parent council
- Next year, focus on pandemic fallout and our students; wellness is for everyone/all students
- Let us know what the students need by reaching out via our IG page @lpciparentcouncil
- Recruiting parent volunteers via 2023-24 Welcome Package
- Seeking Coordinate for all LP Parent Council Subcommittees – reach out if you’re interested in
helping out as a Coordinator!

your convenience) - Look at doing an Environmental Luncheon in 2023-24 for parents/community
- Looking for another Sub-Committee member for next year – Contact Elena if you want to join the
Environmental Committee at
Facility Improvements Subcommittee – Phillip Roberts & Rui Taborda - Consolidating plans for start of the next school year
- Where are the volunteering opportunities, fundraising for Facilities Improvements?
- Field – outdoor athletic facility – RFP was issued and decision to be made soon
- RFP is currently open and proposals due June 20th – review process by Board staff will follow;
we will look forward to negotiations with successful proposal vendor; construction of new field
summer of 2024 to be ready Fall 2024 – fingers crossed! - As parent council, we have stepped back from the process to allow the public sector process to
unfold; we will bide our time and look forward to some good news!
Ward 8 Rep – Jen Dobson (on behalf of Robin Conliffe) - Make sure to sign up for Shelley Laskin’s emails (Shelley is our Ward 8 Trustee on the Board)
Sports Update – Jen Dobson - Girls Football team just won the city finals
- Boys Rugby went to semi-finals
- Track going to Ottawa for OFSAA
Liz Hanson – Grad Signs - LP Grad signs available for purchase – was mentioned in The Eye
- Optional, will be delivered to your home
- Grad prep events re: University – documents are all on the school website – scholarships
content is available for students to look at and apply - Grad Signs will be going up this week in the halls at LP
**NOTE: Can all Parent Council Executives please stop by to see Mr. Griesz before the end of
the year (for those who weren’t able to attend in person tonight).
