Dear Parents, Guardians, Caregivers and Students,
Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute School Council welcomes you to LPCI for the 2023-24 school year!
Our School Council is made up of an elected committee of parents and caregivers, staff and student representatives, appointed community members and the principal. Together, this group of volunteers work together towards achieving the council’s mandate “to improve student achievement and enhance the accountability of the education system to parents.”
The Council acts as advisors to the principal, addressing a variety of issues and activities relating to student achievement, curriculum goals, school budget priorities, school safety, renovation plans, after school activities, as well as the criteria for selecting new administrators.
In addition, the group holds school fundraisers to support the administration’s strategic objectives to improve facilities, programs and overall student experience. We host community social events, organize speakers and presentations on a variety of beneficial topics (such as mental health, post-secondary planning and careers), assist student clubs and committees as well as teachers and staff.
Some events that School Council hosted and/or supported last year include The Holiday Tasting Tour, the Wellness Council Winterfest Student Luncheon, the athletic department’s game day BBQs, the drama department’s Dinner Theatre, How to Fund University webinar, and the 80’s Craze Party & Silent Auction.
The School Council is an excellent way for all parents and caregivers to get involved in the school. We welcome new volunteers and encourage all members of the LP community to join our monthly meetings (both in person and virtual attendance). With updates from the Council Executive Team, the Student Council, and Principal Griesz, these meetings are an important forum to discuss issues that affect the education and overall high school experience of LP students.
