LPCI School Council Meeting

  1. Welcome By Co-Chairs– M. Yach and A. Cohen
  2. Approval of the Meeting of April 23, 2012 Minutes:Motion by L. Pendrill 2nd by V. Bery Approved
  3. Presentation of LPCI Co-op Program by M. McDonald: The co-op program has grown over the years and the program is looking for placements for students for the 2012/13 school year. In particular the program is looking for opportunities in the building and auto industries. Ms. McDonald highlighted some of the placements which occurred this year including: film and theatre industry; auto repairs, veterinary practices, ophthalmology, food prep industry, real estate and golf industry.   4. Student Council Report- Michael updated Council on May and June events including:
    • *Prom
    • Report card pick up Wednesday July 4th
  1. Principal’s Report: Monday June 25th is Exam Review date- morning only.Discussion about Prom and the inappropriate behaviour of some of the attendees. Teachers and Admin(26 volunteers) were supervising and despite the fall out from the semi formal the teachers again had to deal with rudeness to teachers and admin and intoxicated attendees. It was suggested by Council that perhaps a task force of students, parents and teachers convene in the fall to look at how we might hold a successful prom (or dance). We would welcome any input from parents and students interested in this issue.
  2. May Ward Meeting Report- L. Turkish attended the TDSB Board meeting which outlined Budget Decisions Made By the Board and Proposed Cuts required to deal with the reduced funding from the Provincial Government. The proposed cuts and the Summary of Cuts Already Made is available on the TDSB website. Any comments should be directed to our Trustee, Howard Goodman.
  3. Executive Council Recruitment: M. Yach will be stepping down as Co-Chair but will remain on Council. We are looking for a new Co-Chair. Anyone interested in the work of Council should contact A. Cohen. Council needs new members to carry on the business of the Council and we welcome all.Meeting Adjourned – next Council Meeting September 17th, 2012
